❓ Frequently Asked Questions on Turkey Leases and Rent Laws

What should I do if my landlord demands more than the legal inflation rate?
You can lawfully decline any increase above the 12-month TÜFE average. Pay the existing rent plus the exact legal percentage via bank transfer. You cannot be evicted as long as the legal rent is paid on time.
When is the new official rent increase rate announced each month?
TÜİK publishes official CPI figures on the 3rd of each calendar month at 10:00 AM Turkish time (or the next business day if it falls on a weekend).
Does the same cap apply to offices and shops?
Yes, both residential (Konut) and commercial (İşyeri) properties are governed by the same 12-month TÜFE cap.
